I am not the only person who wonders about the unwritten rules and manners around airline travel and window shades.
On my most recent flight, I had my usual window seat. It was an 11AM flight (my local time), landing at 2:30PM local time in a different time zone. So 100% of the flight was during daylight. I kept my shade open the whole time, and rather enjoyed having the natural light and occasionally peeking out. If anything, I wonder if it was less disruptive than opening and closing it. I like that the article suggests that people can pack their own eye masks. And if any of my neighbors had asked about closing the shade, I would have happily complied. Oh yeah - the person in the middle seat took plenty of liberty when expanding into my personal space. I think other people noticed that too so that might be why my neighbors also didn't say anything.
