The two Udemy courses I have created have both had the video content made with Explain Everything. The most recent one which launched today is a course built around ideas from Make Yourself Clear.

I have found a pretty good system for efficiently creating whiteboard videos.  If this post gets any activity I'll add a bunch of visuals to the text descriptions.

  1. Record the audio using whatever tool you like. I used Garageband to record me and Steve's conversations.
  2. Edit the audio in Garageband so that it is the most listenable and useful (i.e., remove long pauses, unnecessary tangents, etc.)
  3. Export the audio as a file and import it into a new iMovie project as the sound track.
  4. Select the track and then use the speed setting to set it to 50% and choose 'Preserve Pitch' (unless you enjoy hearing the super low slo-mo effect on your voice(s)).
  5. Launch Explain Everything in parallel (new window, app, or separate device).
  6. Create a new project and press record.
  7. Press play in iMovie
  8. Sketch the conversation in Explain Everything while listening to the play back.
  9. Export the project as a video
  10. Import the video into the same iMovie project
  11. Remove the slow down from the audio track
  12. Speed up the video track 2x (200%)
  13. That's it - the video below is an example of the possible outcome.
